“Abstraction allows man to see with his mind, what he cannot see physically with his eyes.”

- Arshile Gorky

Sublimation literally means dissolution of the apparent. Abstract art is all about doing away with form as it appears and distilling, instead, the essence. Post impressionism era saw artists focussing less on realism and more on abstract expression, using colour, line and texture. In India, there were artists who explored the Tantric and Meditative Imagery also, like Dipak Banerjee, Bimal Dasgupta and Sohan Qadri. ‘Sublimated Forms’ showcases works by senior Indian artists working in the abstract tradition. This is the first show in a series of three. Featured paintings by Satish Gujral are from the early sixties, and those by Bimal Dasgupta and K.S.Kulkarni are from the early nineties.
